Most women's voices deepen significantly between their late 20s and early 40s. She's kicked the habit now, but even in her case, you can tell just by listening that she's definitely not in her 20s. She'd started smoking a year or so before she got the job and reckoned this had contributed to her voice changing quite a bit by her mid-30s. Her voice sounded very high-pitched, almost girl-like at the time. I remember one female TV newsreader, now middle-aged, telling me that she couldn't bear to listen to clips of herself from when she started working on regional TV in her late 20s. It's a slightly different scenario with women. With most male radio broadcasters, I (and I think a lot of others) can take a rough stab at someone's age and be within a decade of the right answer. However, when men become elderly, the voice often becomes weaker, thinner and higher. If you listen to male sports commentators who have been around for a long time, the vast majority have experienced significant voice changes. I'm very conscious of it and the changes.

I actually think my voice has got a bit deeper and richer in the last six months or so.
#GETTING A DEEPER VOICE PROFESSIONAL#
It may be that I've had some professional help with breathing techniques, but it is probably partly a natural thing.

I've noticed changes in my voice in that time, and listening back to old recordings, there is a clear difference. I'm 30 years old and have worked in radio on and off for 10 years.
